How will I get there?
Go on a directing course at a drama school/university: after doing three years at university or drama school, and after my career is over, I could go back to university and do an MA (Masters) course (MA Theatre Practice, MA Theatre Making). After gaining a knowledge of how a theatre production is put together during my MT career, I will have a head start with knowing somewhat of what to do and a MA course in directing could give me the extra knowledge that I could take back to theatre companies and direct for them.
Gain some work experience: to gain some experience, I could go to a junior theatre school (amateur dramatics school) and volunteer to help with the directing side of a production and see what exercises director use to help and benefit actors and see what directing techniques they use. I could also direct short films for University students who are working on film making projects.
How will I be seen?: so after gaining work experience within directing, I could get recommendations from companies i have worked for. The experience i have gained and the training I have had could go onto a portfolio and a CV so I can show off to the relevant people.
