So far the only song I have practiced, with my teacher, is Words Fail from Dear Evan Hansen because I knew this would be a challenge and I knew that this is the song that would need more work so I have put this song on priority.
In the meantime, at home, I have taken my free time as an opportunity to learn the remainder of my songs and practice them by breaking down the lyrics and seeing what they mean and how I can interpret them to my audience.
I have decided to not do Electricity from Billy Elliot anymore because of the over lap with other assignments, and focusing on my children theatre performances, I made the decision to take it out because I know i am going to find it hard to choreograph a full one and a half minute dance solo as in the dance discipline, I am not that creative and I find it hard to dance within a specific style.
I have also decided to change Being Alive from Company to With So Little To Be Sure Of from Anyone Can Whistle as I already know this song quite well and it also goes towards a legit sound of voice which I wanted to include as the majority of my material is contemporary. I can Also use this song to my advantage and poetry a lot of acting through the words.
I have also briefly practiced Love Is An Open Door from Frozen with Izzy, in our own time, to practice the few harmonies and just to run the song a couple of times.
I have also practiced One Last Time from Hamilton quite a bit with Owen with the staging and helping him hit the big notes towards the end of the song as it is quite challenging. The staging for this is going to be a dest table on stage right angled towards the audience and have Owen sat at the desk looking at paper work. Then I am going to come in and start the song making it look as natural as possible and making it look like a conversation.
In Words Fail, I've been working really hard on my vocal range so I can hit the big "A4" note which I hit when practicing with my teacher but it felt uncomfortable so I am going to practice some of the exercises that me teacher Celia has shown me and practice them in my own time.
As I am going first in the performance, I am going to have to have a look at what to say to the audience to welcome them to the showcase and make them feel comfortable. In general, I am quite an awkward person so this is going to be a challenge for me but I want to make it quite comedic as well.
Overall, up to now, I haven't really been on the ball with practicing for this project as much as I could have been doing. This is partly because I'm focusing on other assignments more than this as their due dates are soon but I could be finding more time to practice and have better time management.
